feck, 571,658 polys? For a simple model? You might want to check where you've spent those polygons, now you're getting good at modelling(and rendering) you need to think about modelling efficiency. After all, if you wanted a fleet of pods then you could easily have more polys than your system can handle.
Minor lecture aside, nice render. :)

thanks for the tip . i'm with you on that ;) i raised my poly's that high on purpose because i could (with this particular model) and it makes it look better . i'm sure i could have done the same with less and i could easily lower the segment counts if i needed to add more ships or other things . i really appreciate the pointer though . i've been playing with high segment counts lately . somewhere in the middle there is point where more poly's don't make any difference . i know my aim has been way above that mark , but i'll eventually learn how to center it perfectly

Hypernurbs smoothing ftw.

but those kill my render times while manual segment count increases don't

Hmm, that never happens to me...ahh well.
I tend to get a nasty slowdown with ridiculous polycount in the views(over 10mill) but the render times don't suffer with or without nurbs.

hmmm . ya know , i haven't used a HyperNURB since i upgraded to R11 . when i was on R8 they were bad . maybe i should try them again some time

yeah, the lights are good.

Hmmm...i'd animate the capsule and then add motion blur. that would be my comment.

motion . good idea . i had an idea about putting a trasparent object like half a capsule around it to "show" the wind around it . i'll play with motion a bit and see what i can do . thanks :D
