i made this within 40 minutes from 3 Cubes and 1 Cylinder . i very loosely based my design on what appears to be a very old magazine advertisement ; a low-color pen drawing of a Transformer character named Strafe . i haven't researched this character and i don't remember if i have seen it in any of the shows i've watched . i found about 7 of these advertisements for plane-based Transformers and have been wanting to make them for a while . this was the easiest of them to model so i threw it together while i listened to two of the shows play

for the render i used my default project , which has 3 lights . i duplicated one of the lights , set it to exclude the floor and gave it a hard shadow . it's a very simple trick to define the lines/cuts between surfaces . it also gives you a little more control over the shadow on the ground (which i used an Area shadow on at 20% density) . also , each of lights are set very slightly to different colors , which gives the render a bit more "warmth" than just using the default white lights

the stand is a B-Spline in a SweepNURB with a Circle , and a filleted Cylinder for the base . the materials on that are from my default plastic and metal sets . the one on the model is a default material with a Fresnel between (very-very) pale blue and brown

.. i just wanted to model something simple without having to think about it . a break from the big projects i'm working on
